What does being Afro Latina mean to you?

Pride, Belonging, and the Essence of my Being.

There has never been a time where my flag has not been a part of my identity. It represents the history of my people and the voyages made over generations. My mother is an immigrant to the United States born in Panamá. Looking at her people often assume that she is JUST a black woman. But then she speaks. Her tiny frame and heavy accent fill me with a sense of meaning. I am my ancestors wildest dreams. Afro-Latinidad encompasses the variety of people who come in all colors but have a history that unites us and pain that bonds us forever.
